Traumatic Aniridia

A patient with past ocular history of penetrating screwdriver trauma to the left globe presents with debilitating glare symptoms and poor vision. The patient has a previous surgical history of primary corneal laceration repair and lensectomy with subsequent reconstruction with scleral fixated IOL, corneal transplantation, and glaucoma tube shunt. Exam of the left eye shows a widely retracted iris with complete superior and nasal loss of iris tissue as well as conjunctival scarring and scleral thinning superiorly. The patient underwent artificial iris implantation with significant improvement in uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity, glare symptoms, and cosmesis.
