Macular Hole
A 64-year-old male veteran presents to the clinic on Feb. 15, 2019, with report of having blurry vision in the left eye for 30 years, following left-sided head trauma. He has been told by multiple providers that there was nothing that could be done for his vision. He complains of a “swirl” in his central vision that is very bothersome when using both eyes together. Patient is well known to Dr. Gregori, who saw him 10 years prior and it was explained that chances of hole closure at that point are low. Patient later returned, expressing interest in doing anything possible in order to improve his symptoms. The patient underwent autologous retinal free flap with perfluorocarbon injection and subsequent surgical removal, as well as phacoemulsification at a later date. His visual acuity improved to from 20/200 to 20/150, and metamorphopsia subjectively improved.
