Combined Hamartoma of the Retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium
A 19-month-old girl with an unremarkable prenatal and infantile history presented with esotropia of the left eye and was found to have a vascularized mass concerning for retinoblastoma. Examination under anesthesia revealed a charcoal gray, curvilinear retinal mass with well-defined margins. There was nasal dragging of the optic disc and subretinal hemorrhage in the nasal macula. Following multimodal imaging, the lesion was diagnosed as a peripheral combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium with associated, remote, peripapillary choroidal neovascular membrane. The patient received a series of intravitreal bevacizumab injections with resolution of the subretinal hemorrhage. There was no interval growth or changes in the retinal mass.
