Orbital Osteoma
A patient was referred from an outside ophthalmologist with identified left optic nerve edema and an MRI which was concerning for a cystic orbital lesion. A CT orbit was obtained which confirmed the supramedial orbital lesion to be bone rather than cyst. The tumor abutted the optic nerve and the patient demonstrated evidence of compressive optic neuropathy on visual field testing, so the decision was made to proceed with surgery. The tumor was resected via combined endonasal and transorbital approach with Otolaryngology. Pathology confirmed the lesion to be an osteoma. Post operatively the patient had excellent vision without relative afferent pupillary defect or diplopia.
