Grand Rounds
A patient with a disfiguring bony lesion of the orbit was eventually diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia. This needed eventual medial maxillectomy and removal of the orbital floor, requiring reconstruction. Titanium mesh orbital floor implant was utilized, which months later unusually migrated causing scleral thinning, pain with eye movements, and significant diplopia. Inferior orbitotomy was performed to remove the implant, the thin sclera was sutured, and the retina was lasered for a favorable patient outcome.
