Grand Rounds
This is a patient with significant complex medical history who presented with hand motion vision secondary to bilateral dense white cataracts. Due to high anesthesia risk given the severity of medial comorbidities including an implanted left ventricular assist device, surgery was unable to be performed in the usual outpatient surgical center of choice. Instead, cataract surgery was performed in the operating room of a full medical hospital and the decision was made to perform same day cataract surgery on both eyes in order to avoid a second round of anesthesia for future surgery in the fellow eye. Final post-operative visual acuity was 20/20 in both eyes.
