Topic outline

  • Grand Rounds

A patient with a history of eye trauma with metallic foreign body presented with pain and blurry vision and was found to have severe Aspergillus infectious keratitis. He continued to progress despite topical, systemic, and intrastromal anti-fungal therapy. He was initially treated with a conjunctival flap with cryotherapy and intrastromal anti-fungal medication. During his post-operative course, he developed flap retraction and the keratitis was worsening. He then underwent a therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty. Initial post post-operative monitoring did not demonstrate recurrence of the infection, and the remainder of his clinical course is still pending.
