Grand Rounds
A 69-year-old male with decreased vision OU referred to BPEI for a 2nd opinion. Originally diagnosed with dry age-related macular degeneration. Fundal examination revealed extensive chorioretinal atrophy in the macula and the medioretina. After thorough work up, it was discovered that the patient prior to being switched to newer generation antipsychotics was on thioridazine 30 years taking 1g/day. No treatment could reverse the macular toxicity and observation was recommended.
