Conjunctival Amyloidosis
Section outline
-
A patient presented with a raised, well-demarcated, yellow-ish lesion of the left lower palpebral conjunctiva, which had been present for 2 months. The lesion had previously been treated as a chalazion without improvement. She had no systemic systems. Anterior segment OCT demonstrated a thickened, hyperreflective sub-epithelial lesion and pathology from biopsy showed deposition of amorphous eosinophilic PAS- and Congo Red-positive material demonstrating apple-green birefringence, consistent with amyloidosis. The patient was referred to hematology-oncology for systemic workup which is pending.
