Section outline

  • A patient with no significant past ocular history presents to the emergency department with blurred vision of the right eye following head trauma where he hit his head on a glass door the night prior. The patient denies loss of consciousness after the incident and is otherwise feeling well. Examination revealed an optic disc pit in the right eye with an area of subretinal fluid in the macula involving the fovea. OCT showed an area of subretinal fluid and intraretinal cysts of fluid in the macula of the right eye. The left eye OCT was normal. Overall, given the patient’s history, clinical presentation, and multimodal imaging, the diagnosis was most consistent with optic disc pit maculopathy.
